Responsibilities:
- Optimize Control Systems: Lead efforts to optimize electrical/process control hardware and software to ensure high safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability standards are met. This includes maintaining liaisons across departments for support and expertise in executing projects and operational KPIs.
- Technical Guidance and Support: Provide technical support, coaching, and expertise to maintenance, operations, and technical staff. This includes troubleshooting automation and controls systems, advising on design changes for efficiency and cost reduction, and enhancing the troubleshooting skills of maintenance technicians.
- Project and Emergency Management: Coordinate and document the specification, design, and qualification of equipment and control systems. This also involves being available for emergency response and project management during off-hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure the highest levels of safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance, actively supporting safety initiatives and the behavioral-based safety observation program. This includes compliance with NEC, GMP, SQF, and other codes and standards.
- Operational Performance Improvement: Identify opportunities for reducing labor and/or energy costs and improving process and equipment quality and efficiency through engineering and design practices. Support operational efforts to improve performance, potentially requiring work during weekends and holidays.
Requirements:
- Educational and Professional Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Electronics/Controls Engineering, combined with 8+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting manufacturing controls systems, 5 years of controls engineering experience in the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industry, and 3 years managing technical direct reports.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise with Allen Bradley equipment and systems, Rockwell Software, AutoCAD - Autodesk software, and a good understanding of the National Electrical Code and control system design. This includes in-depth knowledge of motor control circuits and Ethernet/IP communication protocols.
- Hands-on Technical Skills: Experience in calibrating/setting up industrial instrumentation (flowmeters, level sensors, etc.), and a comprehensive electrical knowledge to meet NEC and NFPA requirements.
- Soft Skills and Other Competencies: Must be a self-starter with high levels of integrity and honesty, possess the ability to work in a team environment, multitask effectively, and have a strong ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical procedures & electrical diagrams. Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are also required.
